CERAMIC PLATES + WEE CUPS + CALENDAR
Lil BUB - a very special, one of a kind critter. In her life on Earth, BUB overcame great health challenges and celebrated many great accomplishments before leaving our planet on December 1st, 2019 to return to Bub-Ub-Bub. Her legacy and mission to help animals needing extra care is continued through Lil BUB's Big FUND, which has raised over $500,000 for animals in need.
CERAMIC PLATES: Asya combined her talents as a ceramist, graphic designer, and illustrator, to create 150 special edition wall plates to commemorate BUB’s leaving Planet Earth. Asya begins each custom project by mixing a batch of porcelain slip (liquid clay). The slip is then poured into original moulds. Because each edge is finished by hand, every piece develops a unique personality as it moves through the three firings: bisque firing, glaze firing, image firing. The image is created by printing on fine transparent film, and transferring it onto the glazed piece. As the piece goes through the third firing, the film burns away, and the image melts into the glaze to form a permanent, food-safe surface.
WEE TEA CUPS: For Lil Bub’s third birthday, and as a gift to her, Asya created a limited edition of wee tea cups with all proceeds going to charity. Over $6000 was raised for Lil BUB’s Big Fund for the ASPCA, it sure felt good to contribute to the aid of animals with special needs. Here is a link to the making process.
CALENDAR: Combining illustration and design skills, Asya hand-lettered the type, and created illustrations for the inside. 30% of proceeds from the sales of the calendar, (which sold out!) are donated to help special needs pets.
